Jabbawockeez
The Jabbawockeez are a hugely successful dance crew that gained fame after winning Season 1 of “America’s Best Dance Crew” (2008). Since forming in 2003, the Jabbawockeez have captured the attention of the world and have been steadily growing their list of achievements. They have produced their own sold-out stage show called “Müs.i.c.” (pronounced muse-i-see) at the Hollywood Theatre at MGM Grand, Las Vegas in 2010.
This dance crew always don white masks and gloves during each performance to conceal the identity of each member. This allows the audience to focus on the theatrics of the group rather than on individuals. Their faceless performances accentuate the gracefulness, precision and synchronicity of the group leaving you wondering whether their performance was just a figment of your imagination.
This San Diego based crew consists of eleven members with different backgrounds from all over California andwere brought together by the late Gary “GeeOne” Kendall. The name “Jabbawockeez” was inspired by a mystical dragon called the Jabberwocky from a Lewis Carroll poem “Through The Looking Glass”.
The Jabbawockeez are best known for their energetic and dynamic performances that are filled with more than just dance routines. This highly entertaining group infuse mime, comedy and drama into their show. Their performances are enhanced with innovative new music from their dedicated DJs, ‘The Bangerz’. With their own music and unique kabuki-styled dance moves, the Jabbawockeez aim to display the physical interpretation of the music through their intricate and artistic choreography.
Despite their celebrity-like status, the Jabbawockeez are humble and down-to-earth guys, who are always thankful and appreciative of their fans (their wockeez or twockeez). They aim to inspire others to follow their dreams and to persevere through adversities and they are a perfect example that passion and determination can lead you to achieve your goals.
The Jabbawockeez have been pivotal in changing the way the world sees dance. They have brought dance to the forefront of mainstream media and these inspirational dancers have paved opportunities for generations of dancers to come.
