The Australian Hip Hop Championship has concluded with some extremely tight competition for first place in both divisions. For the first time,  an Australian national title was won by a crew other than Kstar. DVP has excelled from their 5th place finish last year to win 1st place this year and be crowned Australia’s Hip Hop Champions and also received a $5000 cheque. JTown featuring brothers Jesse and Joel Rasmussen from Sydney followed closely behind. Melbourne’s most experienced crews Beatphonik and Rewind rounded out the top 4, and Sydney’s Doppelgangers scored extremely well for their originality and creativity.

Special shoutouts to all the special performances, Zabrina Araya and her dancers, Mass Mayhem, and the Melbourne House Dancers. Also, huge thanks go out to our special judges, whom worked tirelessly to provide the result they could all agree on and provide constructive feedback for the crews. Finally, thanks to UEG for organising one of the most prestigious and visually sensational hip hop events in Australia!

All crews will be receiving scans of the judges’ comments soon.

MELBOURNE REVIEW

The capacity crowd at MMA went wild after seeing that the standard and quality of the competing crews was so high. This was the highest quality of competition for a preliminary Melbourne has ever seen, and new records were set in the scores some of the crews achieved. The junior crews were truly talented and showcased massive potential, with Kstar awarded their place in the final after a stellar performance. Beatphonik, DVP, Rewind and Superhoodz also qualified amidst some very tough competition.

AHC moves to Sydney in two weeks to find the final crews to qualify for the Grand Finals on May 31st, after which wildcards will be announced.
