The Australian Hip Hop Championship has concluded with some extremely tight competition for first place in both divisions. For the first time, an Australian national title was won by a crew other than Kstar. DVP has excelled from their 5th place finish last year to win 1st place this year and be crowned Australia’s Hip Hop Champions and also received a $5000 cheque. JTown featuring brothers Jesse and Joel Rasmussen from Sydney followed closely behind. Melbourne’s most experienced crews Beatphonik and Rewind rounded out the top 4, and Sydney’s Doppelgangers scored extremely well for their originality and creativity.
Special shoutouts to all the special performances, Zabrina Araya and her dancers, Mass Mayhem, and the Melbourne House Dancers. Also, huge thanks go out to our special judges, whom worked tirelessly to provide the result they could all agree on and provide constructive feedback for the crews. Finally, thanks to UEG for organising one of the most prestigious and visually sensational hip hop events in Australia!
All crews will be receiving scans of the judges’ comments soon.
JUDGES:

AHC has secured a sensational panel of judges to match the esteem of the event and the quality of the crews. The three international judges are Yuri Tag (Kaba Modern), Taeko Carroll (Fysh ‘n’ Chicks) and Patrick Chen (Dance2XS International).
Workshops with Yuri and Taeko will be held on June 1 and 2. CLICK HERE for more details of the special workshops!

MELBOURNE REVIEW
The capacity crowd at MMA went wild after seeing that the standard and quality of the competing crews was so high. This was the highest quality of competition for a preliminary Melbourne has ever seen, and new records were set in the scores some of the crews achieved. The junior crews were truly talented and showcased massive potential, with Kstar awarded their place in the final after a stellar performance. Beatphonik, DVP, Rewind and Superhoodz also qualified amidst some very tough competition.
AHC moves to Sydney in two weeks to find the final crews to qualify for the Grand Finals on May 31st, after which wildcards will be announced.

Hi guys, just wondering how the Melbourne heat was judged i mean it was tight and the krews were outstanding but i don't see how rewind could place 3rd:S… Apart from having a song in the mix for longer than a minute (click), the choreo was probably the most creative, and the krew killed it. But yeah just hoping the judges at the finals are on their game…
I second that Chipp! Rewind should have at least come 2nd they got cheated. It seems like Melbourne judges like seeing the norm…
Thanks for the support guys. We always try our best to be unique so hopefully this year we have what the judges are looking for. =D
Can't wait for the finals!!!! REWIND BABY!
